Before entering the legal arena, David’s career started in the finance sector within the energy industry. As a Managing Director/SVP and proprietary portfolio manager overseeing Canadian offices for international energy companies, he mastered the intricacies of commodity valuation, risk management, trading, finance, and reporting – all integral components of the industry’s backbone. His extensive knowledge and experience have proven invaluable in understanding complex financial transactions and contractual arrangements in corporate settings.
Graduated with JD Law from University of Calgary in 2022 with a focus on Indigenous law. David strives to combine my global commodity & finance experience with my recent law degree and work with First Nations.
Simultaneously with his tenure at Stepper Law, David has been actively involved in First Nations governance, negotiations, and capacity building. Collaborating with former 3-time AFN Chief Phil Fontaine and the Ishkonigan team since 2021, he has been a catalyst for positive change and empowerment in Indigenous communities. Currently, David is engaged in the facilitation process in front of former Supreme Court Justice Frank Iacobucci, a testament to his dedication to equitable resolutions.
